Hi!
As some of you might know, southern Brazil, specifically the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has been struck by heavy rains and a consequential flood. The rains started on monday (29/abr) and only stopped today (5/mai), in Porto Alegre ─ the state capital, and the city i live in ─ and in the other cities nearby.
The lake that borders PoA (named Guaíba) has reached more than 5m up its normal level. This is higher than on the historic 1941 flood. The city's center ─ a big residential and commercial hub, beyond being the host of most of our public services (such as the city hall and the state government) ─ is completely taken by the water. Many other neighbourhoods were also affected.
Smaller cities that also border Guaíba were even more heavily affected, such as Eldorado do Sul, whose territory was almost 100% flooded.
The state is, for a lack of a better word, abandoned by the people that were supposed to aid.
Our governor, Eduardo Leite, is more worried about his plitical campaign ─ making dramatic videos, changing his facebook pfp to one of him with a public defense vest, making streams with no useful information ─ than with the people's lives. This year, he destinated only R$50.000 (~ USD250.000) for the Civil Defense. For the entire year. He is now, delegating the responsibility of recuperating our state to the Federal Government, stating that "the rbuilding of the RS will demand a Marshall Project".
Porto Alegre's mayor, Sebastião Mello, has vanished. He sold our city out to big enterprises ─ Melnick, Zaffari and Panvel, mainly ─, and hasn't destined any public resources to maintaining the Mauá wall (a wall built after the 1941 flood with a system made to protect the city from other floods), which caused many points to fail and the water to invade the city.
This is the danger we all face with a neoliberal system.
Neoliberalism is an individualist ideology. All these people and companies I named did close to nothing to help us. Or even made it worse. The Civil Defense, for example, published a map of all the areas that would be affected, but had to take it back, since it didn't consider the topography.
Its the people for the people.
This situation is being aided by people using their own resources. Donations of various natures and volunteer work. It is very beautiful, in a way. It shows that colaboration and union can do great things. It shows, at least to me, that the world can reach, one day, a self sustaining way of living, contrary to the ultra-individualistic capitalism some preach. Humans can, and are, good.
But it also lays out how much the people that govern us failed us.
Human lives were lost because of their negligency.
This flood isn't normal. It is a product of the huge levels of degradation multi-billionaire companies are causing the world, supported by higher class and their representatives. Eduardo Leite changed almost 500 points of our state's Environmental Code, for the worst, when he was first elected in 2019. His actions, and the actions of all other neoliberal politicians, such as our ex-president Bolsonaro, are what created this situation. They are responsible for everything that is going on here.
This flood isnt the only environmental crisis this state has faced in the last 6 months. This isn't the last one that will happen.
This text is, beyond a personal vent, a warning. We need to keep fighting against a system that is actively trying to kill us. Please, do not support ideals and people ─ especially if said people will rule you ─ that go against the environment, that preach that the capital, the money, the posesions, are more important than lives. Of the people, of the animals, of the environment. Fight for a better world, i know there can be one.
Always be aware of the climate in your areas. Things like this won't happen only here. Please be safe.
Sorry for the long post.

I used to be in a socialist youth org where occasionally people would be in info booths by the street and inform people about XYZ. sometimes we also had meetings with the grown-ups, who were either trade unionists, members of the national communist party, or party friends from the leftist party. one of these meetings entailed a bit of wisdom from the "elders" on how to talk to people on the street, and one of these was "dont actively antagonise people who are of a different opinion, it's going to be less likely you'll change their mind if you approach them in bad faith". this doesnt mean anyone turned their cheek when literal neonazis showed up (happened multiple times), but we had somewhat civil conversations with people who very much did not agree with our opinions, be it on the military, immigration, taxes, general misconceptions about communism, conspiracy theorist weirdness (islamogauchism and the like), and so on and on.
what are the self-proclaimed commies on tumblr doing? trying to guilt people into donating for just causes in the most immature ways, and as a whole just not knowing how to fucking talk to people, never mind convince anyone that their political opinions might be worth overthinking. "donate to X or kill yourself!" "you have a moral responsibility to say out loud you care about X" i know youre an edgy teen but you look even more like a fuckin clown
no one is saying you should hold great speeches or pretend at being a politician, but at least put in an effort to not look like a ragebait farmer except it's "progressive". you wouldn't survive a day in actual political organising before someone takes you asides and tells you to calm the fuck down

i did a mini rant about it on twitter, but i want, and need, to say this here as well
it is sickening to see all media everywhere parrot israeli propaganda and lies while actively ignoring what they are doing to palestine, but especially so seeing it all being done just as much in germany, it feels even more personal bc shouldnt WE be the ones MOST critical of anyone enacting genocide?? a lesson to take from our awful, shitty, horrific history isnt we cannot criticize jewish people ever at all but that genocide is BAD
its seems like they are afraid of being called antisemitic by some people who dont know shit about whats going on so much so that theyd rather support a full blown genocide of 2 MILLION people, and it just
it scares me
i feel like a stranger in my own home, im avoiding news on radio and TV bc it feels like they are trying to brainwash me to cheer for the oppressors; we were responsible for a 5+ million genocide and now the media and politicians want us to support one of 2 million more??? what the fuck???
"well there are some evil people in this country we have been colonizing for years, guess we are gonna have to wall the entire region off so noone can leave and kill every single human life there, sorry, we had no other choice, dont look at us openly bragging about pulverizing a hospital filled to the brim with people seeking shelter from our 6000 mega bombs we dropped within a few days on this region, then calling palestinians 'children of darkness' and us the 'children of light', delete those posts, then change who we want to blame it on every few minutes bc people are starting to see through our lies, but dont you see? the bad people could have been anywhere, we had to, that hospital wasnt the first and wont be the last tho, so sad uwu"
how insane do you have to be to hear that and go "ah yes, that is very logical and justified and totally not obvious lies, heres a billion of currency and a metric fuckton of weapons to kill them all more efficiently, have fun and good luck"
?????????
if you think supporting palestine and wanting isreal to stop bombing them means you automatically support hamas you have no fucking idea what you are talking about actually and you need to educate yourself right about now, urgently
if you think the acts of one terror organisation represent an entire country and thus everyone living in it deserves to die for it, what the fuck is wrong with you there definitely are some horrible fascist, violent cults in the US, there absolutely are some in germany as well, do they represent the entire population of either countries and thus every single thing alive within its borders needs to die horrificly???
why did i have to sit in school trying not to cry my eyes out looking at fotos of piles of tortured, dead people, visit whats left over from concentration camps with all its looming feeling of doom, not even being able to stomach going into the building itself bc it made me want to vomit just being there and learn about every sickening detail of our awful history when im now here seeing and hearing it all over again, but this time im supposed to cheer for the oppressors?
i am appalled of so many countries being so complicit in supporting yet another genocide, but i am especially ashamed of my own. again.
free palestine.
#ganondoodles talks#free palestine#how is it radical to say i dont want people to die#and no amount of killing will bring anyone back to life#all it does is take more life away and take more life away and take more life away

R.O.T.O.R. -- AGAIN!
Even ripoffs can be beautiful.
I am writing about R.O.T.O.R., neither for the first time nor the last, because something new strikes me about this startling movie every time I see it. Its amazing premise, which amply rips off THE TERMINATOR and JUDGE DREDD (but not ROBOCOP, oddly, which began shooting after R.O.T.OR., also in Dallas) provides fertile ground for all sorts of useful interpretation. This time I was most struck by the fact that R.O.T.O.R. is all about jobs and going to work.
The story concerns "police scientist" Captain Coldyron (cold-iron) who has invented the Robotic Officer Tactical Operations Research/Reserve, a T-800 type of android made out of a "self-teaching alloy" that can kick anybody's ass. Coldyron resigns in a huff when his boss conspires with local politicians to rush the lawbot to market, and the project races forward dysfunctionally until R.O.T.O.R. inevitably busts lose and starts killing people for minor mischief. Coldyron hooks up with the robot's coauthor Dr. Steel (female bodybuilder Jayne Smith who is like something out of Crying Freeman, which I mean as the highest compliment) to hunt their creation down and destroy it.
Coldyron is played by Richard Gesswein, who was also created in a lab.
That might sound pretty action-packed, but in execution R.O.T.O.R. is heavily focused on the drudgery of daily life. Enormous amounts of time are spent walking through parking lots, traversing the atria of hotels, finding parking, being seated in restaurants, and most of all, spending hours and hours at work, making countless phone calls. You have never seen so many people on the phone in a movie in your entire life. There's work phones, home phones, payphones, and even CB radios. At times it feels as if you may never see more than one person on the same set again. On the phones, people say things to each other that have already been said earlier in the movie if not earlier in the same scene, if not earlier in the same monologue. In the scene where Coldyron learns that R.O.T.O.R. has gone rogue, he delivers this incredible screed during one of THREE calls that he makes in a row:
"Its last program was prime directive... Prime directive to our ROTOR unit is judge and execute. It stops felons, judges the crime, and executes sentence. Justice served, COD. You call the Senator and you tell him ROTOR walked through a busload of nuns to get to a jaywalker, with malice towards no one. It won't stop. It wasn't ready. Its brain functions are incomplete. It can't think twice, can't reason, can't change its prime directive. It's like a chainsaw set on frappe..."
It begins to feel as if he will never stop reiterating whatever he (and others) just said, and this is not the only such example.
Most of these calls, like all of the activity in the movie, are focused on jobs. Coldyron calls his girlfriend first thing in the morning to tell her that he is getting ready for work, and to ask her if she is also getting ready to go to work at her own job. He promises that "if you're a good girl and go to work" then he will grill steaks at her house later. When he goes out to buy charcoal for the reward steaks he stumbles upon two creeps robbing the store and trying to take a hostage--a woman who stops the crime with several karate kicks, to whom he says "Hey lady, you want a job?" Meanwhile at the police robot lab, a scientist slaves away while complaining about the impossible new R.O.T.O.R. deadline as the comic relief security bot whines, sighs, and says "One of these days I'm gonna quit this job!" (Later on he actually does) Once R.O.T.O.R. has escaped we meet the Linda Hamilton of this movie (Margaret Trigg), who is having a vicious fight in the car with her fiance because she wants to get a job; the fiance wants to forgo the "barbaric ritual" of the wedding and just be automatically married to a woman who will not embarrass him by getting a job. Finally he concedes, "Elope with me tonight and I'll help you get a job after the honeymoon," but it's too late for all that because he's speeding and about to get killed by R.O.T.O.R.
For extra job-related realism there is workplace harassment in the form of a guy who tries to fuck his colleague by describing ancient execution methods and who calls her a white supremacist for turning him down (he says he's Native American, she says he's not, I don't know the right answer because this is the actor's only credit--and actually he's uncredited for the role, though he is acknowledged for composing the movie's primitive synth soundtrack which I kind of enjoy). It's also worth mentioning that the comedy droid is a real robot with a job, according to iMDB (sadly there is not a wealth of info on this movie):
"Willard the Robot is played by APD2, a robot purchased in 1986 by the police department of the Town of Addison, a northern suburb of Dallas, for $17,750 (approximately $41,000 in 2018 dollars). APD2/Willard performed public relations duties and was tapped to lead the Christmas parade in Addison that year. His contributions to actual law enforcement and his subsequent whereabouts are unknown. "As quoted from 'theoldrobots' website; 'Officer Willi from 1985 - This 21st Century Robotics robot was operated by remote control, showed videos about public safety, and was used in teaching important safety topics such as stranger awareness, traffic safety, and much more..'"
Coldyron is actually a very good prototype of the modern tech mogul who has way too much time on his hands and whose existence is mainly composed of heroic fantasies about himself, whether he is molding the future face of law enforcement, or dicking around on his enormous ranch where he lamely practices his lasso technique on tree stumps before blowing them up with dynamite. At the office he demands "hydrogenated wheat germ and dessicated liver" which boosts his handball game, and I thought, jesus christ I think I've worked for this guy. Coldyron is *I think* the hero of this movie but I'm never sure how much you're really supposed to like him; when his girlfriend sends him out for charcoal so he can cook her reward steaks, he goes to a mini mart and just starts looking for trouble, harassing minorities and flashing his gun. It's like, this is the reason there are loitering laws, but naturally they don't apply when you're a rich cop.
Someone please make these stickers!
The best way to understand R.O.T.O.R. is through the knowledge that director and co-writer Cullen Blaine worked on a variety of popular cartoon shows during what they call "the dark age of animation". First of all, there are scenes in this movie whose aesthetic, humor, and internal logic only begin to make sense if you imagine them taking place in an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles--and actually much if not all of the dialog was dubbed by a whole other cast due to problems with getting the stars back for ADR, creating a whole other layer of literal cartoonishness. But the period in which Cullen Blaine created R.O.T.O.R. and designed many children's shows was dominated by what's called "limited animation" which I almost don't even have to describe. It's all in the name, the goal was to do things as cheaply as possible while turning out dozens of episodes per season. Part of the problem was, as with all things, Ronald Reagan, whose deregulation activities defanged measures to make sure children's programming was not just a steady stream of hard sell marketing. Under Reagan, the requirement for some portion of programs to be educational became so easy to meet and manipulate that animation studios were compelled to crank out zillions of Trojan horse toy ads with glib moral declarations tacked on. (I think I understand this correctly, I'm sure @bogleech has better material on the subject) Animators are a historically abused lot with a sad history of failed strikes, and I'm just extrapolating here, but I bet it's reasonable to guess that R.O.T.O.R. reflects the filmmaker's experiences in the grueling cartoon mines. The brutal sacrifice of quality to speed, the hostile work environments, and the endless, redundant calls and meetings, all smack of a script by someone who has had a very bad job.
"We've all got plenty of time to figure out what this means to each one of us," Coldyron sagely concludes at the end of his misadventure. Obviously I am still working on what it means to me, since this is the fourth or fifth time I've seen this movie and (at least?) the second time I'm writing about it. I will say that while the film I have just described sounds intolerably boring--I mean, a whole movie about rat race drudgery with the fewest and least convincing action sequences ever--but believe me, it is not boring. R.O.T.O.R. is constantly surprising and fascinating, with weirdly vivid imagery and pages and pages of the strangest dialog you will hear anywhere. Just watch the movie and let it shock you. You'll have plenty of time to figure out what it means to you later.

I like how the activity page truncates bad takes.
TERFs are so efficient that their argument turns to shit almost immediately and you literally only need a sentence and a half to see it.
Who said there is no biological sex?
Also, another person said "my numbers were wrong" because I didn't post the number of people on blockers and hormones.
Because I was talking about surgeries.
Those are different things.
But even if I did include teens on blockers and hormones, you're looking at about 6,000 folks. That is still statistically nothing. My point would have held just as true.
And then they said my surgery numbers were wrong because they only included people who used health insurance.
Yes, I'm sure there are tons of extra uncounted surgeries from independently wealthy trans teens.
They said there are 42,000 diagnosed with gender dysphoria every year. Which, again, is minuscule. There is no reason an issue this small should be getting the attention it is.
Like, 42,000 is almost exactly the number of auto accidents that kill people each year.
We do almost nothing about it.
We still get in our cars every day. We don't try to ban driving. There isn't really any effort to decrease that number. As a society, we have accepted that number of people is worth losing so we can get from place to place.
But with trans youth NO ONE IS DYING from gender affirming care. The parents and the kids/teens *want* this healthcare. They are satisfied with the outcome. And when they finish their transition as adults, nearly all of them have no regrets.
Yet we are passing laws banning everything from going to the bathroom, to kids playing soccer, to a few *thousand* teens taking medications, to a few *hundred* getting top surgery, to even wearing the wrong gender clothing out in public.
We do almost nothing about 40,000 dying in auto accidents.
But this is the reaction to gender affirming care?
The priorities are ridiculous.
They are trying to save people who don't want to be saved.
And we could totally reduce that auto accident figure. If we put the same time and energy and money into that, we could lower that number. We could fund research for safer cars. Build safer roads. Create smarter traffic systems. Fix road infrastructure. Treat alcoholism more aggressively.
But no. We need to hold weeks of legislative sessions on gender affirming care. We need to pass hundreds of laws. We need to ban 8 kids from playing sports. We need to stop 300 teens from getting top surgery. We need to prevent 4000 from getting hormones and another 1400 from getting blockers.
Meanwhile, those same politicians are voting against free school lunch programs. 11,000,000 kids are food insecure. Why in the hell did we spend months stopping 6,000 young people from getting healthcare they want and need instead of feeding MILLIONS of kids?
Make it make sense.

feminist: I’m glad you feel that way. here’s what you as a man can do to prevent it from happening. stop consuming porn, stop making misogynistic jokes, hold other men accountable, stop defending celebrity pedos and rapists, stop defending pimps and prostitution, stop berating and dehumanizing women as a form of male bonding, stop listening to podcast bros that promote misogyny and rape rhetoric, start uplifting and validating the voices of victims instead of cultivating indifference towards them. rape is the practice of misogyny, the ideology. dealing with the problems at the root will ensure that rape occurs less and that rapists and pedophiles are held accountable
“good” men: no :)
also
“nice” christians/religious conservatives: omg, I hate how crazy people kill and torture lgbt people for being lgbt. they are such bad people who miss the message of our religious texts, which is to love others.
lgbt people: that’s really cool! if you really hate people killing us, you could stop that by advocating for laws that ensure we have the same human rights protections you do, no more no less, and by not joking, preaching or advising about castrating, converting, lobotomizing, or killing us. you could critically examine your beliefs about us and challenge texts that teach we are subhuman, maybe even consider not making those texts authoritative in legislature. you could challenge your biases about us and try to make the world safer for us. that is how we would feel loved.
“nice” christians/religious conservatives: no :)
also
“progressive” white people: i hate what they did to george floyd and the other black victims of police brutality and hate crimes. i hate how poc all over the world are treated so badly by karens and rednecks. colonialism is so bad. it’s so sad when that happens.
poc/majority world citizens: that’s great! it would be cool if you could make space for poc to talk about their experiences without getting vibe checked and tone policed and got comfortable with being de-centered in political discussions, entertainment and history. it would also help if you held your politicians, academic institutions, and media people accountable for racist and colonial rhetoric, as well as stolen wealth and artifacts. you could stop exploiting and infantilizing locals when you tour exploited countries. you could criticize your government for neocolonial and imperial activity. you could challenge white supremacist propaganda in your history books. you could also not make fun of poc for their natural and ethnic features and not platform colonialist and white supremacist apologists.
“progressive” white people: no :)
#feminism#radblr#radfem#yes all men#and racists#it’s always#I’m so sad about this and that happening to these poor people#but when it the time comes for them to do something about it?#all of a sudden it’s ears blocked eyes closed#it’s too hard you guysssss#OKAY so you DON’T actually care about victims

Okay, I still have not heard one convincing argument that not voting does more good than voting for the lesser of two evils.
Like, I'm genuinely asking this and am not trying to be petty or smug or whatever.
I'm talking about the simple act of voting; not donating to campaign funds, not harassing people who are rightfully angry at genocide Joe/Kamala, not wasting time trying to get people to vote but not doing any other activism, not blaming nonvoters solely for xyz candidate losing when there's multiple factors that contributed to their loss.
I mean the simple act of spending a few hours every 2 years filling in some bubbles to try to slow our descent into fascism.
Like, I get that many libs think voting is the end-all-be-all of activism and that Kamala is our savior or something. I get the argument that dems aren't going to move left if people continue voting for them without question/pushing. I get how the dems are basically dangling our basic rights in front of us to get our votes. And I get that the dems are still fucking terrible and the end goal is to tear it all down and start over.
But I don't get how risking letting someone worse win to threaten/punish them is a valid strategy. Like, it seems too high-stakes to me.
I don't get how the argument is any different than, say, "protesting/rioting is shit because it's destructive and disrupts people' lives".
I don't get how it's better than just pushing people to do more on top of voting.
Like "here are the shitty things Kamala is doing and here's what to do about them". Or "Here's the few bubbles to fill to reduce the number of orphans going into the orphan crushing machine and here's the plan to destroy the machine after you turn in your ballot."
Being against voting all feels very "You claim to want things to improve yet you participate in society. I am very intelligent." I would very much not have to beg for my rights every election and instead burn the whole thing down and guillotine all the politicians but unfortunately my body is falling apart and my brain is shit so voting is one of the few things accessible to me.
I don't get how voting for a candidate that will protect (some of) your rights while trying to kill other groups is selfish when the only other option is trying to kill you AND them. How would the less at-risk groups help fight for the rights of the more at-risk groups if they're too busy also being killed if Trump wins? How would me risking my rights by not voting do any sort of material good for Palestinians facing genocide or kids in cages?
It seems like the arguments all seem to boil down to "pulling the trolley lever is icky because people will still die so I'll let someone else choose" or "there are two genders: voting or REAL activism (you can only pick one)" or "5000 bad things is exactly the same as 3000 bad things" or "if enough people don't vote then nobody will win the election"
I'm just trying to do what good I can do because I can't do much.

Okay I am NOT maintagging this because the last 3 times I did that, all I got was negativity for it. So I won't.
But can someone please, please explain to me why USAmericans trying to figure out who to vote for in the fall is "demonic"? I genuinely don't understand. I hate literally all our main candidates, but voting 3rd party is almost guaranteed to fail because everyone else also thinks that, and unless we get a MAJOR reform on that front, it's just an unrealistic expectation to have.
So we have Trump or Harris. And Trump actively wants me dead.
To me, it's clear who the vote should go to, even if I also fucking hate Harris. Like, both of them are going to keep perpetuating the genocide, there is no winning there, so at that point, we gotta look at other issues. Trump is an avid fascist who has actively said he will stop the "trans epidemic" on "day 1." Forgive me for being afraid for that. As far as I know, Harris doesn't have plans to kill trans people, so my vote goes to her because she is the lesser of two very extreme evils.
I keep seeing this sentiment where USAmericans are called selfish or stupid for being so worried about the vote coming up in the fall when it's LITERALLY what is going to determine the future of millions of people in this country. Like, I don't understand. I feel like if my head is on the chopping block, I have a right to be worried about that.
I already feel powerless enough about everything else. Let me have this one, genuinely helpful thing. Our politicians are all corrupt and evil, so there is no winning, so we just gotta pick the ones that aren't actively planning to detain half the country and pick fights with other 3rd/2nd world countries, right? That's LOGICAL, right???
Like PLEASE tell me if I'm wrong, but calling us stupid or selfish for being worried about that seems really dumb??
#dimond speaks#this isnt an attack i am genuinely confused#someone please explain this to me#fuck man i am so scared

I'm Queer and I'm Voting
This morning I woke up feeling like crap. Right now I feel too depressed to wanna wash the dishes, even though I've got a gross greasy pan that needs cleaning.
But I woke up with this lingering feeling of pure contempt for those who would actively discourage voting, or encourage throwing one's vote away to a third-party traitor like Jill Stein.
We've been going on about why Project 2025 is bad for a reason. If it passes then this might very well be the last real election we actually participate in. It disgusts me that at a time when this could be our very last shot, that people could think about wasting it.
Early voting in my district starts on Saturday; you can bet I'm gonna go to my voting place bright and early to beat Election Day traffic, and then reward myself with a latte right afterwards. And even then I'll have to wait another week and a half to find out what comes next.
This election season I've been trying my damnedest to take care of myself, to focus on the things that bring me joy like my current fixations for GRAVITY FALLS and for Eda Clawthorne.
But this morning it just occurred to me; we as a society have fought long and hard for the notion of queer relationships to be normalized in children's media like THE OWL HOUSE. Disney corporate fought hard to try kill the show because they cared more about catering to the Bible bethumping fundamentalists, but the creative team still managed to tell their story.
Before that there was STEVEN UNIVERSE. That show had a lot of scheduling and releasing problems because, again, corporate wanted to kill the Big Gay Female-Led Gem Show. But Rebecca Sugar and company still did it.
I first learned about homosexuality in the late '90s. Back then the idea of children's shows featuring gay, trans or nonbinary characters would've been unthinkable, because queer folk were just expected to stay out of sight and shut the hell up.
But now we live in a time after gay marriage had finally been legalized nationwide for the first time. Asexuality is acknowledged as an orientation and not some kind of mental or sexual dysfunction.
We've fought and worked so hard to get to where we are now, and after the Reagan Administration had attempted to wipe us out through negligence during the AIDS epidemic.
And it genuinely disgusts me that there are people who claim to be progressive, who would gladly destroy everything that we've accomplished for ourselves, seemingly because of how our government is handling the attacks on Gaza.
We in the queer community WANT our politicians to do more to stop Israel's government, but we can't when we're literally fighting for our own lives in our own country. Gender-affirming care will be outlawed, hate-crime will go even further up, and people who don't already have support systems and require the services of community efforts will be left with nothing.
Remember that in the last few years there have been local fascistic efforts to ban any kind of queer literature from libraries because the mere suggestion that being straight isn't one's only option is "pornographic" to the fascists. Even if you're not into reading, your favorite big gay cartoon shows will be wrongfully labeled as "pornographic," thereby becoming illegal, thereby they will not only be taken down from streaming services, they could be wiped out altogether.
And the knowledge that there are people out there who would let this all happen, all for some nebulous, unrealistic moral ideal that they want impose on others, but not hold up themselves. I wouldn't call them cowards, because even cowards can act on survival instincts. These people are just fascists by another name.
I'm trying not to be pessimistic about the outcome of the election, I'm trying not to have a doomerist mindset about it, but I couldn't shake off this dread that I've been feeling all morning. I'm finding myself reliving the grief and trauma I felt back in November 2016. Pure helplessness, like my soul was physically leaving my body. I feel numb. Activities that made me happy have done nothing for me. I'm having a hard time just enjoying THE OWL HOUSE because it might very well be my last chance.
But I'm still gonna get out there and vote blue all the way through. I'm not going down without a fight. I'm going to make my voice heard.
To quote a couple of my favorite pieces of media, I am not throwing away my shot, and us weirdos have to stick together.

You wouldn't vote for a guy who's actively trying to kill your entire family and everyone around you.
But if he's doing it to thousands of people in other countries, it's just a sacrifice we have to make so things don't get "worse?"
What's "worse" when it comes to multiple genocides happening around the world? Is that not already the worst point? The thought of you hypothetically losing some rights in the future scares you more than the genocides happening NOW? It's clear that you actually mean "it will be worse because I personally might be negatively affected by it."
We all know that democrats are just as likely to commit war crimes and genocide in other countries. There's not any less violence with a democrat in power. But as long as the violence doesn't come to your front door, that's a sacrifice you're willing to make.
"Damage control" isn't "use Brown and Black people as collateral damage to keep our comforts," it's "don't ever let a politician think they can get away with this shit, what the hell?"
Again, if it were your family & friends being murdered en masse, you would be appalled if someone told you that you had to vote for the man who did it to you.
But I guess enough won't be enough unless it happens to you. And if it were to happen to you in the future, you'd have no one left to fight for you, because you didn't fight for them.

The “vote blue no matter who” crowd blaming progressives for the democrats constantly losing and not their candidates shit policy I think is one of the saddest things to witness.
You can finger wag all day long about “the democrats would win in a landslide if more people just voted” but fail to see that democrats rarely offer every day people reasons as to WHY they should be voting for them.
I’m from North Carolina (a swing state that often goes red) and our mountain towns have just been wiped off the map by hurricane Helene. And while the government has sent aid to help in the immediate aftermath, there’s no promise to us that there will be the support to help us rebuild and that we won’t be left to be preyed upon by wealthy real estate investors. All the while the Biden Adim sent another BILLION dollar package to support the terrorist state of Israel’s forever war.
I think you’d be hard pressed to convince every day Americans to care about the election because A. From their point of view they have more important things to worry about. B. The democrats haven’t offered them any substantial reason as to how they’re going to improve their lot in life.
I know you get so upset at people not voting but I’m literally begging you to interrogate WHY people don’t vote. we should not treat politicians as if they’re entitled to winning votes because the other guy is worse. Everyone already knows the other guy is worse! What is your candidate going to do that will be substantially better for me than the other guy?
Being the lesser of two evils is exactly why Hillary Clinton lost, and it’s been so mind numbing to watch Kamala Harris speed run the exact same playbook. She’s out here saying how much she LOOOVES republicans and taking endorsements from fucking DICK CHENEY!!!!!! She’s actively ignoring an entire base of potential voters because the campaign strategy is to try go after Never Trumper Republicans exclusively. Trump only wins if people don’t vote for Kamala Harris, we know this, everyone has already made up their mind about Trump. But instead of extending a hand to the people in the margins (the demographics of people who statistically tend not to vote) she’s spat in their face and made it very clear her messaging is not for them.
And I know you (the vote blue no matter who crowd) are pissed off about this too!!! It’s fucking a stupid way to run a campaign!!! But the answer is not to sit still and don’t rock the boat, it’s to be disruptive as possible so they bend on their unpopular positions. Politicians only care about votes. They don’t care about you or me, they care about votes. So this quite literally the best time to demand concessions from them because they need US to stay in power.
And to end this I wanna say one more thing. Kill the part of yourself that’s scared to criticize the Dems because it might cause them to lose. That right there is loser behavior. The democrats are historically losers because they ignore the base of potential voters because they want to chase the success of the right. Kill the loser dem inside of you and start calling your democratic representatives and tell them how you feel about their policies.

Ok so since my last post about Palestine on this blog*, which I spent multiple days writing to try to make it as clear as possible where I stand and how I feel about both what is happening and how people are using their couch activism to do nothing but get internet points against other people on the internet, I’ve received a bunch of ‘go girl give us nothing’ kind of anons praising me for ‘not taking a stance’ or yelling at me for ‘not talking a stance’.
Which, for one. No. Just because don’t talk about everything that I do to support important causes does not mean I don’t do anything. I’m not posting my donation receipts online for your approval.
I’m also… I’m genuinely lost as to how that was the message received. I know I’m autistic af, but don’t feel like that’s what I said at all and I can’t figure out why that’s what people got from it.
This will be another long post with basically the same information as the last one, but put more bluntly. If you are still struggling to understand where I stand, I genuinely don’t know how to help you with this anymore and I’m not spending more energy hashing it out for you.
I thought I said, pretty explicitly, that I think colonizing entities and terrorism is bad. That genocide is bad. I thought it was very clear that I don’t support the murder of many thousands of people—tens of thousands of children. I included the USA in this previous statement explicitly because we are backing a genocide, yet again. (If not, you know, directly doing genocide against people ourselves.) I expressed clearly, I thought, that I did not support anyone killing innocent people, as a reminder to the ‘what-about-ers’, who like to say that people who don’t agree with a genocide ‘cheer on’ what the Hamas did to random citizens. I cant 100% say I know enough about the Hamas and their desires to tell you much more of my thoughts about that. It’s been a constant struggle with misinformation, in general, but a lot of it surrounding them and their beliefs/actions.
I thought it was also pretty clear that I am so far removed from this that I’m constantly aware that me saying anything could be based on wrong, outdated, or mistranslated info at any given point. I’m catching up as fast as I can, continuously educating myself, and voiding years of propaganda from growing up in this shitty ass country with its shitty ass education propaganda system. I mean a lifetime of messages directly from the media, our politicians, teachers, etc. to not pay attention because it’s ’not our problem’ as a country and there’s ’always a war there’ so ‘don’t care about it’ and ‘don’t react.’ Which is part of the reason why I made the original post, because I do care and I am reacting, and it does matter.
So, I guess I have to say it again, because as hard as I tried to get the message through last time, it apparently got lost somewhere.
I do not support the ongoing genocide of Palestine. I do not support the crimes against humanity that I have seen happening there. I do not support murder and terrorism. I do not support the country I am forced to live in, and its involvement in this. (USA)
I do love my Jewish and Muslim friends. I do not believe in a bigoted hatred against either religious grouping based on the actions of some people. I support the Jewish people standing up for Palestine. I do want peace. I do want healing. But I am also aware that peace and healing is something heavily owed to Palestine for many years now, and that it can’t be achieved until something massively changes in how the world and Israel treat them.
Now, if this statement is not clear enough or is said the ‘wrong way’ or isn’t ‘right’ or just isn’t what you want to hear. I’m sorry. I always struggle with communication, and I’m genuinely not good at this. I tried so hard with the last post, and I was still told that I was doing nothing and saying nothing. The only thing I can ask is that you give me the smallest amount of kindness and understanding, and assume that I am trying to communicate compassion for people suffering. Give me the benefit of the doubt, if you can, that I just fucking care about people who are being hurt.
And lastly, please keep your ‘what about’ bullshit out of my inbox. I can’t address every single thing, all the time. I can’t know every single thing, all the time. I’m aware of multiple horrific things happening in the world right now and how important it is to pay attention to them. I do share and talk about them on my side blog* that is dedicated to that kind of thing, but this one thing in particular is something people keep coming to me about in my inbox here and I’m addressing it this one last time.
*Again, my main blog here has always been mostly about my art and projects, and after years of people outright screaming at me to keep it that way and to not include any current events, political, or ‘too personal’ posts I’ve long since moved most of that over to my side blog. Many of you already follow me there or know what blog it is. I am not sharing it again because I’m tired of having personal life things I share being used to hurt me. Also, one last reminder that you can’t have it both ways. You either want to know my personal stuff and political stuff, or you don’t and only want to see my art. You don’t get both. And this will be the last time I address this here.
#I’m not saying this again#palestine#important#tw: genocide#tw: murder#tw: islamophobia#tw: antisemitism#Batwynn Talks#blacklist the previous tag to never see personal or political posts on this blog#as always#again#this is the last time#if you genuinely want to know what charities I have donated to or recommend#for yourself to donate to or to signal boost#message me#I’ve got a few posts saved with lists of them#but one or two that I donated to were GoFundMes that reached their goal or were more personalized and ‘small’#so those aren’t generally on the big lists#and finally#I’m begging you to take your time to read this thoroughly#and sit with what I’m saying for more than a minute#and grant me the understanding and compassion that#I am trying to express care and love for people suffering#and please do not twist my words into something its not#if this is not possible for you and all you see is hatred or whatever#i can highly recommend some intro to reading comprehension books and education materials

I've returned from thesis-writing-hiatus to say one thing:
I'm so incredibly ashamed of the German government. I went to high-school for 8 years, 4 of which we spend most of history class talking about the Drittes Reich, Hitler and the Holocaust. My grandpa was in the Hitler Jugend as a child. His dad died somewhere in Russia fighting for Hilter. My Polish grandma told my mom stories about how the Germans devastated the Polish people during WW2. I am very well aware of my German heritage and rightfully so are most of us Germans. We've been taught about the unforgivable acts our ancestors have committed against the Jewish people and we are aware of the xenophobia still taking place in Germany today. And I am all for keeping this knowledge alive in each new generation for the purpose of never forgetting what people, regular ass human beings, are capable of doing.
The German representatives at the UN have chosen to not vote for the ceasefire that almost all countries of the world are asking from the Israeli government. And I cannot fucking fathom this. I'm ashamed. So goddamm ashamed. Us Germans, after what our ancestors have done to the Jewish people, as a result of them commiting a GENOCIDE, we have an obligation to forever be the first ones to get involved when we see someone else committing the exact same heinous crime! How can our politicians and parts of our people think that the main lesson from the Holocaust for us Germans needs to be: "Never again criticise or hold accoutable any Jewish person ever again for anything they do because of our past." When the ONLY lesson we should have learned from this devastating crime should be: "We can never ever again let this happen. We need to be the first ones to call it out. We owe this to every single person that was killed during the Holocaust. So that no human being has to suffer throught this again".
I understand that us Germans feel the guilt. We all know what we did to the Jewish people and that these actions can never be forgiven. However, we cannot let this guilt be the reason to stay neutral right now. It cannot justify us watching on as thousands of human beings are being slaughtered by the Israeli government and military in the present day. They are actively murdering civilians. They are systematically destroying the health care system in Gaza. And they are not even trying to hide those atrocities from the world. It's a genocide they're commiting right now. And it's well past time to start believing that.
Again, I can't put into words how disgusted and embarrassed and ashamed I am that many of our German representatives are acting like spinless cowards. Yes the matter is complex. Yes there's been death and destruction on both sides. However, only one side is currently invested in eradicating an entire people from existence. They don't want anyone to survive this! Call it what it is. We owe it to every person that died by our peopels hands nearly a centuries ago. And for every person alive in Palestine right now scared to death that each moment could be their last.

Cw: mention of sexual assault (not stuff thats actually happened, but just me worrying about it), mention of homophobia & transphobia, mention of bullying. I also get very passionate and intense during this long rant. (None of this goes into too much detail but it’s still worth noting. If I’ve missed anything please tell me and I’ll add it).
A couple of random-ish interconnected thoughts about going back to school as an openly queer girl.
Y’know what sucks? I’m worried about going back to school soon.
While I have never been sexually assaulted, I have heard enough stories from people I know irl or from random women online, that I’ve started debating packing an extra bra in my bag for school just in case a boy cuts my bra strap.
The fact that I even have this thought in the first place feels so fucking icky to me. The fact that I have to worry.
And I’m actually not that worried about it! Other than my elective classes, I’m going into all honors classes, and one of the requirements for getting into honors classes is being well-behaved. So I know that the peers I’m going to be interacting with the most (that aren’t my friends) are going to be at least a little well behaved.
But. There’s still this worry. That I will be assaulted in a place that is meant to be safe.
And it’s not just bra-cutting I’m worried about.
I’m very openly queer and I’ve already experienced a lot of homophobia from several of my classmates the last couple of years I’ve been in public school (because covid is a bitch).
And I’m lucky! A lot of my friends a trans, very openly so, and they get misgendered a LOT, even by family. But I’ve got a very open and supportive family, several of which are queer themselves! But that doesn’t mean that I still haven’t experienced homophobia in an environment that’s meant to educate.
I’m going to school to learn fucking math problems, not to get told to kill myself because I had my lesbian flag out in the lunch room.
I’m going to school to learn historical events, not to have to worry if a boy will try and cut my bra strap in front of the entire class.
I’m going to school to learn how to write an essay, not to have to worry if a kid will attack or belittle me because I like girls. Because I am a girl. Because I act a bit differently than them. Because I use She/They pronouns. Because. Because. Because. Because.
I’m nervous to go back to school because I know the mindset of ‘boys will be boys’ is so normalized. Because I don’t actively fear men and boys right now, but I might by the time I graduate. Because I love school and I love my friends and I love my teachers.
But when I was in 7th grade a boy told me to kill myself because I had a pride flag out. And to my knowledge all that happened was he was told off and had to ‘apologize’ to me.
The more I think about how my peers might treat me when I go back to school I just get Kris nervous and more angry thinking back on the things that I’ve already experienced.
Our society has to change.
Because I can’t go on living my life being wary of everyone around me because they might want to see me dead for something I can’t control.
And because I don’t want my identity to be questioned by my peers and politicians because ‘are you sure you just haven’t met the right boy yet?’.
I’m angry and nervous and the fact that I have to worry about packing an extra bra in my school bag will always be a testament to the fact that society (and the school system) has failed everyone. Especially young afab’s.
#fruit rambles#back to school#haha 😀#yes I’m okay why do you ask?#cw vent#tw vent#tw: mental health#tw: mention of sa#tw: mentions of bullying#Cw: mentions of sa#Cw: mentions of bullying#trying to get these all down but I’ve probably missed one 😭#no but seriously I’m fine#I’m just having some intense feelings#high school#Cw: mention of middle school#I think that one’s a valid cw#middle school was weird
